Hannah Macdougall

What do you do when taking on the swimming world for thirteen years just isn’t enough? Take on the world in cycling of course!

This approach isn’t for everyone but for Hannah Macdougall it was the perfect change for her exciting, and at times, challenging life.

The challenges in Hannah’s life began immediately, as she was born without the lower portion of her right leg.  Having to go through life with an artificial leg provides its own unique set of obstacles but at no point did those hurdles stop her from pursuing her dreams in sport and life.

Hannah’s dedication and enthusiasm to her sport has earned her the respect both on and off the field in both of her sporting worlds. Her people skills and ability to motivate those around her were contributing factors to her announcement as a captain of Australian Swim Team at both the World Championships and Paralympic Games.

To be a successful athlete with balance in life takes excellent time management skills and dedication, both of which play a large part in Hannah’s busy schedule.

Hannah has become a favorite at many schools encouraging students to go beyond their current expectations and set goals that they can pursue with passion.

Hannah is also a vital member of the community with her ongoing involvement in many activities such as the Red Dust Role Models initiative, which provides healthy lifestyle and living messages to disadvantaged youth.

Hannah has her sights set firmly on selection for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.

If she is successful in her bid to represent the Australia in cycling, she will join an elite group of athletes to accomplish dual sport representation at the Paralympic level .
